Building Skills. Creating Futures
The Botriver School of Skills will open to all learners of all three language groups living in the Overberg. It will be a low-fee-paying school. Admission will be at Grade 8, and exit will either be at Grade 12 or at equivalent qualification level 4.
The youth of the Overberg will be developed through a five-year skills training programme, choosing from a range of subjects: civil, electrical, and mechanical skills, hospitality, consumer studies, tourism, agricultural skills, agricultural sciences, and agricultural management.
The key rationale for the school is to ensure that when graduates leave after five years, they will be either employable or sufficiently prepared to be able to choose if they wish to be entrepreneurs in the Overberg or beyond.
In time, when the school has been fully phased in over four years, an aspiration of OOCOF is to develop a more inclusive learning establishment and add capacity for differently-abled students and those requiring remedial teaching.
Purpose - Why a School of Skills in Botrivier?
Our approach to making an impact
We have been inspired by successful models like Jakes Gerwel Technical School (Bonnievale) and Ashton School of Skills (Ashton), as well as many others that we have researched and formed relationships with.
At Botrivier School of Skills, we want our impact to empower young people with practical knowledge, creativity, and entrepreneurial savvy that can see the breaking of unemployment cycles, poverty, and hopelessness. By equipping learners with vocational training that leads to real job opportunities, the despair that leads to crime, substance abuse, and dependency can be averted.
The essence of our approach is in nurturing a generation of innovative, confident, and community-minded graduates that will contribute to economic growth and social transformation.
